On 8 August 2016, the Foundation for Advanced Studies (Moscow) has hosted a regular seating of the Expert council of the National Center for development of the technologies and basic elements of robotics. The seating was devoted to estimation of the current state and forecasts of industrial technologies development in this area.
The backlog of the russian developers of the components for robotic devices is around 5 years, as stated by the chairman of the Expert council of the National Center for development of the technologies and basic elements of robotics of the Foundation for Advanced Research Projects, director of Scientific Research Institute for Robotics and Control Processes of SFEDU Viacheslav Pshikhopov.
According to him, the situation is almost critical for the small-size inertial high accuracy navigation systems, power engineering and computer vision systems.
“Everyone knows that only 12% of the domestic image sensors are used in the computer vision systems. The list of produced finished units and blocks is far from complete”, he added.
Besides, work is needed on classification, standardization and unification of the components for robotic complexes, as the chairman of the expert council has said.
The State Standard for the terms and definitions in the area of robotics should appear in Russia till the end of the year, as it was said by the leader of the project team of the National center for robotics development of the Foundation for advanced research projects, Alexey Kononov.
“Besides, a technical committee was formed that will perform development of standardization section for robotics, which is an important and perspective area”, said Kononov at the seating of the expert council.
Note that the technical committee on standardization in the area of robotics has included a representative of RDIRCS of SFEDU (standardization engineer L.S.Verevkina). The committee is created under the auspices of the Federal Agency of Technical Regulation and Metrology.
At the end of the meeting the leader of the working groups of the Expert council were heard. They have reported on the status of activities and gave a development prognosis for the areas of ground, marine robotics and unmanned aerial vehicles (UAV).
A special interest was paid to the developments of the “Kronshtadt Group” (St.Petersburg) that created an antiicing system for UAVs expanding the areas of their possible application.

“Not long ago in our country there were no general airplane systems that would be suitable for the unmanned air vehicles. For example, we had to develop an antiicing system. At the moment the system has successfully passed the tests in TsAGI(Central AeroHydrodynamic Institute named after professor N.E. Zhukovsky). We have mastered this unique technology”, stated the chief designer on creation of UAVs of the “Kronshtadt Group”, the member of the expert council of the National Center for development of the technologies and basic elements of robotics Nikolay Dolzhenkov.
To conclude, let us remind that the Russian Foundation for Advanced Research Projects was organized in 2012 by analogy with the American agency DARPA that is responsible for promotion of innovations in the US military forces. At the present time the foundation works with more than 50 projects in the laboratories created in the leading scientific institutions including the Southern Federal University. At the end of 2015 in the structure of SFEDU a National Center for development of the technologies and basic elements of robotics was created.
